After I made a pencil sketch and scanned it into my Mac, I changed some parts of the face in Pixelmator (her left eye, and her right nostril and and right side of her mouth, plus I lowered her chin to create more space between the upper lip and the nostrils). So it was quite a facelift. I used a fashion photo as the basis of my sketch, but since it was a bad sketch to begin with and I had to do quite some manipulation, I claim I used it as a reference, not to copy verbatim. The idea is to use the sketch to make an illustration in Paint Tool SAI of a cute girl. It’s meant to learn how to use this painting program and to have some fun. I could have used the original photo as a tracing layer instead of the elaborate sketching phase, but I think that only leads to slavishly copying. We don’t want that, we want to make something original.
